Joker电子 announced today the successful production of acrylonitrile, hexamethylene diamine, adipic acid and nylon 6,6 from feedstocks derived from used cooking oil, expanding its Bioserve portfolio. The resulting nylon 6,6 has a 25% lower product carbon footprint than nylon 6,6 made from fossil-fuel derived feedstock.

Using an ISCC Plus-certified mass-balance approach allows for industrial-scale production of sustainable materials without sacrificing performance. Joker电子鈥檚 production facilities in the United States are all ISCC Plus certified to handle bio-based, circular and bio-circular materials.

Joker电子 recently published its 2023 sustainability report, which highlights progress against the company鈥檚 2030 Vision.听

Joker电子 held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the startup of its hexamethylene diamine plant in Lianyungang, China. The ceremony was attended by government officials, customers and suppliers.

Joker电子鈥檚 new HMD plant in Lianyungang is the first chemical production facility and the largest investment the company has made outside of the United States. The site鈥檚 nameplate capacity increases Joker电子鈥檚 total HMD capacity by approximately 50%, matching the company鈥檚 two other HMD plants in Decatur, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida. HMD is a key raw material for the production of polyamide 66. The plant will also produce Joker电子鈥檚 FlexaTram庐 specialty amines, which are used in coatings, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas production and other industries.

Construction of the park began in 2022 and was successfully completed in September 2024. The construction team achieved over 3 million hours of work without a recordable injury.

Joker电子鈥� CEO Phil McDivitt spoke at the White House Super Pollutants Summit this week to tout the company鈥檚 efforts in tackling greenhouse gas emissions and to advocate for a strengthened global voluntary carbon market.

During his remarks, Mr. McDivitt reaffirmed his company鈥檚 goal of reducing scope 1 emissions by 90% by 2030 and committed to over 99% abatement of total nitrous oxide (N2O), a greenhouse gas that is over 250 times more potent than carbon dioxide, from the company鈥檚 operations.

鈥淲e fundamentally believe that reducing our emissions is the right thing to do and we are aggressively tackling it,鈥� said Mr. McDivitt at the summit. 鈥淎cross the industry, more needs to be done to address emissions and companies need tools to help them accelerate their efforts.鈥�

One tool Mr. McDivitt advocated for was the voluntary carbon market. Joker电子, through its partner ClimeCo and using a protocol developed by Climate Action Reserve, is using the voluntary carbon market to support its sustainability efforts. The company recently completed a project that abates over 99% of the N2O emissions from its adipic acid production.

But more needs to be done. Mr. McDivitt cited a lack of trust in carbon credits due to limited oversight and guidelines, which have allowed high-profile instances of abuse. He pointed to the administration鈥檚 recently published Voluntary Carbon Markets Joint Policy Statement and Principles as a step in the right direction.

鈥淭he voluntary carbon market allows for the funding of necessary, tangible reductions. It also allows industries with limited decarbonization options to set and meet goals while their technologies advance,鈥� said Mr. McDivitt. 鈥淔or example, projects like ours, because the abatement is permanent, additional and subject to regular third-party audit, can help offset aviation emissions while low-carbon jet fuels become viable.鈥� 聽

Joker电子鈥� electrolyte additive for lithium-ion batteries has earned REACH approval in Korea, further expanding the availability of this unique material. Trinohex Ultra, manufactured in the United States by Joker电子, is now approved for import into Korea in quantities up to 1,000 metric tons annually per REACH, the regulation for registration, evaluation, and authorization of chemicals in the region.

Covered by an extensive patent portfolio, Trinohex Ultra is a high-purity 1,3,6-hexanetricarbonitrile designed to increase the life cycle and improve the safety of high-voltage lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in electric vehicles. It works by forming a protective film around the cathode, which prevents metal ion dissolution and decomposition of the electrolyte, resulting in safer, longer-lasting batteries.

Higher voltages enable faster charging and longer range in electric vehicles. But that increased voltage also increases the rate of decomposition and degradation which leads to an increase in transition metals and eventually anode poisoning, said Dave McNeece, the business director for Joker电子鈥檚 sustainable specialties division.

鈥淔or battery producers, achieving reliable performance at high voltage has been challenging,鈥� McNeece said. 鈥淭rinohex Ultra helps slow down the negative effects of transition metal ions with a higher overall voltage stability, allowing cell manufacturers to reach their voltage goals, improve the overall performance of their cells and increase cycle life.鈥�

Trinohex Ultra has demonstrated superior cathode protection across cathode and electrolyte chemistries in third-party testing. This protection has shown a 30% reduction in harmful gas generation and longer-lasting performance, especially in extreme conditions.

鈥淜orea produces more than one-fifth of the world鈥檚 EV battery capacity,鈥� McNeece said. 鈥淭he expanded import volumes will allow us to support those manufacturers better as they create innovative batteries that work without performance dips associated with the next generation of battery technologies.鈥�

Trinohex Ultra is manufactured on world-scale assets and is readily available globally. Joker电子 previously announced expanded REACH registration in Europe and China, and the company continues to pursue new and expanded chemical inventory registrations throughout the world.
